Is Artificial Intelligence safe?

Whenever a new product is first introduced in the market, it must pass various safety tests to satisfy both the expectations of the public as well as the government. Similar is the situation with technology.

The creators of the latest technology know the relevance of safety. The field of artificial intelligence is not different. The term ‘artificial intelligence’ was first framed at the campus of Dartmouth College during the summer of 1956. In those days no one ever expected that artificial intelligence would one day impact our day-to-day activities.

The way we think and the way we act everything has changed due to artificial intelligence. Artificial Intelligence has given birth to a lot of sub-domains which are ruling the technological market such as Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, computer vision, Information Extraction, text mining, gaming and so on. All of these subdomains have huge growth potential in the coming years.

However, artificial intelligence is still in the developing stage, and there are a lot of experiments which have taken place in the past years which have failed. We all are aware of the famous Facebook experiment in the field of Artificial Intelligence which took place in the year 2017 and got failed.

Facebook’s team was forced to shut down their ongoing experiment of artificial intelligence when the chatbots invented their own language and started to interact with each other in the language only they understood. The language was not understandable for humans.

Also, the Tesla Car accident that took place when the vehicle mistook a white truck for a clear sky, is a clear example that shows artificial intelligence needs a lot of improvement.

Microsoft’s chatbot, Tay, also shows how important it is to distinguish between positive and negative behavior of the surrounding for Artificial Intelligence.

Companies invest in Artificial Intelligence to create experiences that raise the expectations of the customer. And the companies also need to keep the safety aspect of Artificial Intelligence in mind before proceeding as bad. A.I. can not only damage the goodwill of the company, but it might also harm the customer.

For all of us, Safety and Security are the two most vital aspects of life. In today’s digital world, everything is getting automated. So, we are getting more dependent on machines day by day. When we are using machines for our daily activities, we don’t want the machines to harm us.

There is no doubt that artificial intelligence shall dominate the technological industry and will play an important role in our day-to-day lives. However, Industries should also not step away from the challenges in implementing artificial intelligence and need to take care of the impact of A.I. on society & stakeholders but by putting security first.
